Scammers are taking advantage of fears surrounding the Coronavirus to send phishing emails with malicious attachments or links to fraudulent websites to trick users into revealing sensitive information or donating to fraudulent charities or causes. These emails may appear to be from a health sector such as “World Health Organization” or claim offering medical advices to help protect you against the coronavirus. They also use the latest technology to set up fake websites that sell bogus products or ask for donations to support government and medical research.

It is well-known that email messages, social media, SMS and phone calls are methods commonly used with the aim of committing financial fraud. Below are some advices to protect you:

  • Ignore online offers for vaccinations or any ads touting prevention, treatment, or cure claims for the Coronavirus
  • Don’t let anyone rush you into making a donation whether through charities or crowdfunding sites.
  • Be cautious with SMS alerts & Emails received from un-recognized sourced and refrain from clicking in to any unknown links.
  • Be wary of scams from unsolicited phone calls requesting personal or financial information and do not respond to such requests.
  • Remember Arab Bank will never ask you to provide  your credit card information (PIN, full card number) online and mobile banking credentials (user name and password) or One Time Password (OTP) via e-mails, electronic links , phone calls, SMS, or through Social Media.
  • Please report such financial fraud attempt to our Customer Care Center.
